Aquaculture production is expanding over the world and, as time goes on, is becoming a practical alternative to fishing as a resource. The majority of the world's fish used for human consumption today is raised in tanks. There has been a decrease in catches from both industrial and small-scale fishing while there has been an increase in production from aquaculture to fulfill the rising demand for fish. The ACP Group of States has made significant strides in promoting aquaculture, although these efforts span a wide range of stages, from the commercial phase of development to the early stages of growth, depending on the investments and capacities of individual countries and regions. Institutional restraints, ineffective management, and environmental threats such as water pollution, disease transmission to fish farms, overuse of antibiotics, and negative effects on biodiversity are common in this industry for these nations.
